Summer Solstice II, Vermont USA
« on: June 07, 2016, 05:16:36 PM »
Here's the rendezvous information for the walk on Nude Hiking Day, Monday June 20:

We will meet at 9am at the parking lot at the Long Trail/Appalachian Trail crossing located 1/4 mile east of the Big Branch picnic area on the USFS road #10. That road is easiest to find from Route 7. If heading north on Rt 7 out of North Dorset and before South Wallingford, look for a small road on the right in the vicinity of Danby which heads up into a tiny hamlet (four houses) called Mount Tabor about 1/4 mile east of the Rt 7 junction. Continue east up this road after passing through Mount Tabor into the Green Mountain National Forest. You should pass an official sign noting entry to the forest and I believe also noting that you are now on USFS road #10. The picnic area is to be found on the right side of the road after climbing another mile east. Pass this parking lot and pull into the next one to be found on the right about a quarter mile further. The trail crosses the road at this location. USFS #10 goes on from this point east for another five or six miles and arrives at the town of Weston on Rt 100, thus our meetup at the parking lot could be approached from the east by heading west out of Weston, but we don't have information about landmarks on that side.

Anyone is welcome to join us on the hike. The more, the merrier. This is a 10 mile hike - moderate to easy with the first 2 1/2 - 3 miles being uphill. There will be many places for photo ops. About 2 miles from the finish of the hike, we'll take a swim in Little Rock Pond.

See map:

The map shows the meeting point as being 43.373N, 72.963W.

Judging only from the map, many hills, streams and ponds. I can imagine a beautiful scenic hike.

We love to go on road trips and a road trip in New England would be a good addition to the list.

Please post pictures and reports for those of us 2700 miles from away.

Hi John.    I'm looking forward to joining you all once again this year.    For the record, many of us (our nude hiking club ANANEC) have been doing this hike together  on the Long Trail for at least a decade and without fail, it has been one of the high points of our freehiking season.   I highly recommend it and urge any our you who are able to travel to Vermont to join us this year.

A group of us are also planning to hike in the afternoon before on Sunday and sleep overnight on the trail nearby our Monday morning meetup site.   If you are interested in joining us for the overnight, please message me directly or email me at freewalkerma@gmail.com for more info.

Stay naked.

PS....If you would like to read more on the back story of this hike along with some impressions of an expanded overnight version of the Summer Solstice celebration that I try to do every year, you can find the article and side bars co-written and photographed by Milt, John, and myself in the winter 2014 edition of "N" magazine (The Naturist Society).
