Hotel
« on: August 25, 2016, 03:19:01 AM »
At the risk of dating myself, whatever that means, there was a time when hotels didn't keep a constant camera on the pool and hot tub, and they actually could be used anytime you needed a relaxing soak or swim. There was a 'patio hotel' chain originating in Texas that was particularly adept at this concept. I used to wrap a towel around me and walk out to the pool when I had a long day or otherwise was suffering from insomnia. Usually I had the pool/hot tub to myself, but occasionally there were others enjoying the amenities as well.
I can honestly say that I haven't done that in a while. At least until recently.
I had to visit a project in Corpus Christi and made a trip down to the National Seashore that afternoon. It was a weekday and the beach excursion was uneventful. Well, almost. I stopped on the public beach in an area that is often clothing optional, and there were a few enjoying the option. I went in for a final dip and noticed a car lurking about. Obviously not LEO, I didn't bother with a cover. He pulled up and asked if it was ok to be naked there.  He claimed to be from Port A, and had heard that there was a clothing optional area but not sure where it was. I explained the ins and outs of nudity regulations in Texas and the various jurisdictions that patrol the beaches. There is only one public beach where nudity is allowed and that's on Lake Travis. Everywhere else, well, it's complicated. Long story, short, he parked, dropped trou, and ran into the water. 😁
But, this is a story of the hotel. After stopping at the Surf Shop bar for a pint and fish tacos, I checked into the hotel. I chatted with the friendly receptionist and came to the conclusion that she was the only staff on duty. Not sure why that was important or even crossed my mind, but I filed it away anyway. After settling in the room and not finding anything on the tube, the aches and pains of traveling and exercise started to demand attention. I thought, "hey, I bet this place has a hot tub!". I threw on a pair of shorts to investigate the amenities.
Sure enough, off the main corridor on the first floor, was the pool and hot tub. Shorts were the closest thing to swimwear that I had with me, but I didn't like the prospect of lounging in wet shorts. I simply sat on the edge of the tub and dangled my legs in the warm and invigorating water. I scouted out the area for cameras, but failed to find any. Knowing that they were probably there anyway, I decided to be cautious.
I wrapped a pool towel around me and slid the shorts off. Then I slid down into the water, leaving the towel on the side. Feeling very proud of my stealth, I lingered in the tub for several minutes. At one point, a couple of women came into the area and we chatted casually. A while after they left, I felt it was time for me to cool off. So I slid out of the water, into the towel and repeated the process at the pool. Ahh...
A couple of cycles between the tub and pool and I was feeling much better. Then I spied the sauna! Wow!Pay dirt!  No one else interrupted my spa treatment, as I lounged as long as I wanted. The last thing I wanted to do was put on the shorts for the brief trip back to the room, so I planned out a route through the stairs. Leaving the pool towel in the hamper and shorts in hand, just in case.
I was on the third floor, headed down the hall, when the elevator doors opened and a young couple popped into the hall ahead of me. I simply held the shorts strategically in front and greeted them as though everything was as it should be. They responded nicely as we passed each other. They reached their room as I reached mine, but I didn't look back to see what reaction they may have had from my clearly exposed butt. No audible reaction was detected.
Best night at a hotel in a long time.

I still skinny-dip on hotels on my French holiday, as you know, but the reference to cameras reminds me of an incident many years ago when cameras were not common.
My wife and I had been swimming in the indoor hotel pool (in costumes because most of it was overlooked from the bar) and afterwards we stripped off, dried ourselves and changed in the "private" corner.
Later we noticed that corner was under video surveillance with the screen in the reception area visible to everybody.

On one of our last hotel stays I did much the same trying to get a skinny dip in or at least some nude time in the hot tub. I doubt seriously that anyone watches the feed with any intent. Most attention is directed outside and then when it involves a crime. On our last stay I did the ice bucket run a number of times nude so if the hall is monitored next time I'll smile!

That reminds me of a couple year ago at a Best Western hotel.  After soaking in their hot tub it was about 10:30 PM so I got out and was standing there naked toweling off when the female night clerk came into the pool area.  This one did have pool area video and a window from the manger's office.  She came over to me and politely reminded me that their pool hours end at 10 PM.  But I could come back when they re-open at 7 AM.  She said nothing about my lack of clothing.

My guess is that most hotel management wants us to enjoy our stay, and as long as nobody else complains then whatever we are doing is fine with them.

I've gotten so used to the constant video surveillance I often just ignore it.

Great sneaky skinny-dip in the hotel pool this week.
I went down when the pool opened and had it to myself so the swim tanga came off immediately. Twenty minutes of bliss, including several naked dives in.
The pool is covered by CCTV with a monitor in reception but the pictire quality is so poor that I wasn't bothered. I even got a friendly wave from the staff member who come in halfway through to replenish the fresh towels.

Posting this reminded me of the number of hotels where I have skinny-dipped both in the UK and abroad, on some of which I actually got some pictures.

A mid afternoon swim at a small hotel in Burgundy.

A pre-breakfast swim at the Best western hotel in Figeac, France

The pool shower at Buis-les-Baronnies and Martel

One of many skinny-dips I had at the Croix Blanche Hotel in Fontevraud.

If they saw you in the monitor it seems the reactions are better when you show consideration for others in the attempt to be discrete.

Looks like a nice pool, John.  I'm not surprised that the staff who brought towels just waved.  I have never been harassed while swimming naked in hotel pools  The staff wants guests to enjoy our stay.  As long as nobody else complains they usually don't care.  Enjoy.

None of the pictures were of last Tuesday's pool which was at the Evesham Hotel on the River Avon (the Stratford one). Next time I stop there I'll try to remember my GoPro camera in the hope of getting pictures of a skinny-dip.

Were these pools indoor or outdoor? Did it matter?
Would you still have done the dip in an outdoor pool and risk public exposure?

I'm always looking for opportunities. I have slipped in and then dropped trou several times, when there is public around. The dark water at night helps the stealth.

I'm spending the night at a Holiday Inn Garden Hotel in Kennewick, WA, USA.   Its across the street from a convention center where the 2nd International Bigfoot Conference is being held. https://www.internationalbigfootconference.com/2017  The first night of the conference was pretty good.  Today, Saturday, is a full day of speakers and well known Bigfoot hunters selling books and T shirts, and telling stories.

I went this morning to check the pool and spa area of the hotel.  The sign on the door listed HOURS beginning at 6 AM but it opened at 4:30 so I went in.   I didn't see video cameras.  These days a video camera doesn't have to be any bigger than the little DOT on the back of an Iphone, but I didn't see any.   So I stripped off and enjoyed the hot tub.  Didn't bring my camera.   It felt good but got boring after a while so I went back to my room.
