Geordie boy here
« on: December 21, 2020, 02:48:08 PM »
Hi all, 35yo just joined after seeing this site suggested on IYNO as I’m nearly too old for them now. Posting my intro from there so if anyone has seen this before sorry for the repetition.

I’ve been a member of a local naturist club for a few years, which is something else I wish I had found earlier as I have considered myself nudist or naturist for much longer, began sneakily being nude in my room at about 16 on a lazy Sunday but enjoyed sneaking my PJs off at night a lot earlier.

I like nude walks in the woods where possible and did once do a sneaky but short nude bike ride in a large woodland park after midnight in July 2019... never doing that again without shoes though :p

Out of naturism I’m a big fan of dirty environment destroying steam railway engines (sorry) and worse still I’m a Star Trek fan. Well if that doesn’t get me banned I don’t know what will hahaha.

Welcome to the old men's free range naturism.   We do get occasional women and young people but most of the discussion is from older men.

Merry Yule too.  Midwinter's night and my city starts getting warmer by 1 degree (F) tomorrow.  Then the average temp warms up steadily until summer.

Welcome to Freerangenaturism, Fishandchips! You've found a nice little corner of the web where people on both sides of the Atlantic share a few stories. It's great to see someone new--please be talkative!

You may have aged out of IYNO, but as naturists go, you're just a kid! Some of us can remember when Star Trek was in its first season. In fact some of us can remember when steam engines were in daily use. Ah, that smell of moist coal smoke mixed with oil, there was nothing like it.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. As it happens I’m the youngest member of my naturist club. I’m also in shock at the amount of time that has passed since next generation was new and DS9 or Viyager hadn’t even been conceived. Watching DS9 from the beginning and stunned that the first season is already almost 30 years old. I remember watching the Star Trek 30th anniversary back in 96 now the shows that were new at that time are almost that age.

Earliest memories are at a local steam railway too. Somehow I can’t remember what I did 5 minutes ago but still recall times in the late 80s one being sat in my push chair watching steamers chuff around that railway yard which I discovered aged 18 was a 1987 steam gala! Until then I thought I only imagined it 🤣

All of the old Star Trek shows are playing on Netflix right now. Many, I haven't seen...or remember.... ???

My granddad was head of the roundhouse in Kansas City when I was a boy, but they were diesel by then. He had been there since the 1920's.

There are many who read, but don't post here. I prefer to think that they are not all ancient beings, but a mix. The talkers here are mostly not running on their brand new tires, but the motors are kept up pretty well, still a lot of life left in them. I'd say that there are a few classics, too.

Watching DS9 on Netflix atm because too lazy to get the DVDS out lol. I have them all except Discivery, Picard and Lower Decks, not even seen LDs.

When diesels took over roundhouses became obsolete as they didn’t need turning around and could drive from both ends at their top speeds there was no need to turn them but some survive here. Some steam railways have turn tables. Our National Railway Museum in York is actually two buildings, The Great Hall formed from the Roundhouse and do turntable demos. Another, Barrow Hill Roundhouse is preserved as a working Roundhouse.

I didn’t actually grow up nude. Nudity wasn’t an issue getting changed or going to bath/ shower or drying off afterwards but I went into hiding during early puberty due to not liking the changes my body was going through... still hate them now lol but also at the time our house was being renovated and Me and my brother had to sleep in the dining room in bunks and hid myself from being caught doing certain teenage things... once you hide in a cupboard and using being naked as an excuse once, can’t really go back on it lol. 16 was just bedroom nudity I didn’t start being confident enough to going naked elsewhere with mother around until about 20... she wasn’t happy 😂

Grandpa's round house in Kansas City was a repair station. He was a mechanic, then.

Steam engines were wonderful machines, but diesel or electric locomotives are more economical in every way. Those roundhouses existed so that the engines could receive the extensive maintenance they needed; JBG's granddad must have overseen a large labor force.

In this picture, my friend Dan (who ain't no spring chicken, as we say over here) salutes CSX Transportation, Inc. I could get into the railroad history of this spot, but this isn't the thread for it.

Grandpa taking me to work was a very cool thing growing up.

I spent time there while my folks got a respite from parenting. They were Kansans and had mid-western values, puritanical, hard working, dog eat dog, etc. They were very upright and uptight, formal in their social presentations, as was more prevalent then, than now. BUT, nudity was a matter of practical fact.

One day, Grandma instructed grandpa to take me down to the basement shower and instruct me on how to shower instead of bathtub it. I sometimes slept with them, when little. We would all wear pajamas, but dressing for bed and bathing were out in the open with family. Grandma had two breast removed and explained to me, when I saw her changing dress. There was no shame, over consciousness, just a family matter, so okay.

I suspect that that rural and mid-western attitude is how Kansas has no nudity laws.

I'm a bit of a steam buff too, FishandChips
I shall not mind the odd off topic mention of the mighty power of steam but obviously not to the extent that this becomes a heritage railway discussion group :D :D :D.
Where in the UK are you?  I'm in the E Midlands.
