HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
« on: December 26, 2022, 06:53:17 AM »
We're hearing about the blizzards up north. Seems that we're the only place not beseech-ed by the kind of weather that just says hunker down under a thick wool blanket, wool knickers, wool socks and wool cap. A little goose-down comforter, too.

Dreaming of a white Christmas isn't supposed to be a nightmare....

Well, as usual, when that happens up there, over there, we get a warm spot...yup... Wonderful weather until Tuesday night when the rain cools things down.

Happy Holidays, anyway...one to remember.

Peace on Earth, and to you all,
Jbee

Nothing worse than a white Christmas, particularly here in the UK.  With millions of people travelling to be together with their families and loved ones, snow causes such disruption, stress and disappointment.  No, I much prefer fine weather at Christmas.  Much of the world doesn't have snow at Christmas and in northern climates Christmas may be white but its no different from any other day in the winter of the far north.  It's just that Bing Crosby has convinced us all that white Christmases should be the norm!
"I'm dreaming of a damp Christmas!..." is my song! :)
Actually, in the central portion of the UK we had sun on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - that made it very cheerful and I was able to have a decent long walk on Monday, clothed, but basking in the long, low sun of a fine winter's day and past the solstice so we are gaining a couple of minutes extra day every day....roll on spring!

YAhoo! The sun is coming back! I've had enough of this stuff already and of course it pales to the north.

Yesterday, it was 77F and I could lie down on plastic lounge chairs and it was warm to my body. It was such a tease. It's been cold a lot lately, three freezes. the leaves fell off of the trees. Not supposed to be warm like that until February...generally.

I'm soft, whinny, and spoiled, but my sense of winter is legit to me.

Couple of minutes?  I wish it were!
We’re up to 53 seconds extra today (from 20 seconds extra on Christmas Day), but it won’t be until 11th January that we get a whole 2 minutes more each day.
I’ve walked in Collyweston Great Wood a couple of times in the last few days, where we have walked nude in past years.  It is wet, cold and muddy.  But the field where the horseflies thrive appears to be being left fallow at the moment, so with luck there may be none in 2023.
The end of April is the time to plan a naked bluebell walk.  I doubt if the weather will be warm enough much before.
Norman.

There is the time for migration. Sometime in the dead of Winter, the snow birds head south. The streets of Tucson are loaded down with them, as they alight on this solar Mecca, for the winter.

Everywhere we see people walking around in shorts and tee shirts, like it is normal. The streets get clogged with cars with out of state plates, while Arizonans wander around bundled up in anachronistic contributions to the Goodwill stores, because the coats and sweaters just never wear out and nobody knows what is out, or in fashion.

The climate change and La Nina have had the weather out of whack for three years, now. It is supposed to traditionally start to warm up in February, but the last two years winter was mild and then came in Feb.! This year, we have been getting cold/wet cold/wet with intermittent wonderful. No telling what to expect at this rate.

I was wrapped up in sweat pants, a sweat shirt AND a t-shirt, WITH shoes yesterday working on a new compost bin! I noticed that I didn't have to be as concerned with splinters and abrasions and although a bit stuffy, I was pretty warm. New Years Day has 90% chance of rain! What's with that? A couple of days ago, I lay down on a warm plastic recliner chair and baked in perfection. Hopefully, the good stuff will pop up on our hotsprings weekend...

Shouldn't have to wait a week for the first nude hike of the year. MAybe, I should try one of those polar bear style walks to acclimate?....

Good thought - bluebell walk in April.  Pop me a PM nearer the time and let's do that!  We can plan it with the help of the weather forecast
