Duane/JBee.. Sorry about that!  I have the recollection you are both in desert lands and thought the cactus trip was under Duanes post.  Actually I had to look it up after JBees additional info above, it sounded so intriguing.   It's really quite interesting.  There are some good photo examples of different plant species showing the growth characteristic.

JBee you and DF could publish your desert photos with some poetry or reflective prose like JBee does here.  I know you'd have an impact on people seeing that landscape for the first time. Have you pursued your writing?   I see there is a society for this and you can name or adopt a cactus.  JBee, you can get one named for DF!

I had this mental image of Lucille Ball in "The Long Trailer". She and hubby (Dezi) were on a road trip with a travel trailer. She had to pick up a rock (most were about the size of a cantaloupe) from every place they visited. Remembering her on the confectioners line, you can imagine the scenes by the end of the trip.

Is it that bad with you?
Say hi to Larry.
Haaave fun in the Ozarks!

I decline to comment on the grounds that it might incriminate me... Let's just say he gives me a quota, and we've been to lots of cool places... Although I find them a bit hard to store in the cheek...that was a funny episode.

Crested Saguaro Society! That IS fun. Pinal and Pima County, that's Tortolita. I recognize many of our friends and neighbors in those photos.

The new website will be sort of a naturist Arizona Highways. Two fer one. I'll be re-writing many of the old posts each week.

My own land is my best place to hang out,  not yet an ideal environment for hanging out and enjoying life naked,   but at least it's conveniently located. And improvements are in the works.    We have 80 acres on a mountain side,  another 47 owned by a neighbor behind which I will be developing along with our own for agriculture.   Just need to clear several areas for pasture and food crops,  maybe as much as 20 acres in many small plots scattered all over the 127 acres.   We have 4 springs to get water from,  gravity will take it to a good share of the area.   I plan on building ponds and pools of various kinds for irrigation water storage,   and for cooling off in when it's hot.   Since the time when irrigation is most needed is the time when the springs are the lowest.    And then there are thousands of acres out beyond of timber company land and private land used for timber.   I can roam it all as I desire, which isn't much any more because I find myself pretty busy.     quite a few water falls,  many are fall through spring flow, dry up in summer.    It's limestone karst geology,  lot's of caves and underground drainage.   A significant cave with 246 ft waterfall in it is under our land,  but it's a cave for serious cavers only.  I did a trip in it with a local caver when we first discovered it.    Another favorite hike is down the road about 8 miles,   not a long hike but there's  a number of waterfalls in a row on a creek that's isolated.   No trails to it,   just have to know where to go off through the woods to the right spot to get down the bluff.   Then follow the side creek down to the main creek past several pretty falls,  then up the main creek rock hopping and climbing past several more falls.    The last one has the remains of an old moonshine still beside it.  Then take an old woods road back to the vehicle.  It's a rough but not too long hike.   Not for the faint of heart or frail of limb.    Nice place in spring when the early wild flowers are abundant,  or in hot summer when the water is cool.  But then the side creek is dried up and the main one is low.

But right now I'm still working on obtaining the land clearing equipment.  Spent yesterday on that job.        Found a couple trees down across our road this morning,  been cutting them up hauling the firewood to the woodshed, plus a few logs to sell out of them.    Had to get my tractor going,  it ran out of diesel down in the hay field.  Takes a bunch of cranking to get the diesel back through the injector pump.   Took the small generator down to power a couple battery chargers to keep the battery up and crank till it starts.      While down there I picked the summer squash the hunters had planted.  (they aren't around to pick it very often so they tell us to keep it picked)  I could do that naked,   and it was raining most the day anyway so clothing is ill advisable as long as work keeps me warm enough.    I'm just using some synthetic micromesh shorts when out where people are likely to come by.    Been sittin here at the puter wearing nothing but my cheap dollar store magnifying glass eye shields,    it's been getting where I can't focus on things up close any more without them.

I've been to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. Are they like that?
I believe Mammoth Caves are the largest cave system in the world.

Amazing place.

Same kind of geology underground.      Nearby are some large caves, a developed cave;  cumberland caverns in Warren Co is 32 miles long, and I think blue springs cave has exceeded that, which is a fairly recently discovered one in White Co. undeveloped.     I've been on wild trips in both caves with the cave club.     Another newly discovered cave that's gained great interest is rumbling falls cave just the other side of the county seat from us.   It has some huge rooms,  the route in is through a hole in the ceiling of the big room.   It takes a long rope to rappel into it.         I've done some caving but it's not my favorite activity.   I'd just as soon stay on top and go ride a horse for pleasure and enjoyment of nature.

I love lush green woodland glades. Dappled sunshine on a hot day, soft moss beneath your feet and cool shade in good supply. A cool stream and a swimming pond would be lovely to slip into on a woodland hike on a hot, sultry day; I've never had such a locale to myself...but maybe one day?

John I love the lush woodlands myself and there are enough here to enjoy. The streams here are still running high from all the rain and the only ponds are remnants of strip mining operations from long ago. Swimming could be risky in such man made creations as no one knows what lies beneath the water. I do have access to a few small lakes that were created during the depression as WPA projects and depending on the day some skinny dipping is available. Which brings me to another question. If using a canoe nude is canudeling what would be the naked use of a kayak?

I prefer:
Canuding
CARnuding
KAYnuding (pronunced Kigh-nuding, unless you're from down south)

Your comment about onomatopoeia brought to mind the sounds one hears during these activities. Many are exclusive to the nude. Wonk, wonk, wonk, or wurrat, wrat as bare butt leap/sticks across vinyl, fiberglass and glossy wood finish. The smork after lifting up and finding same butt fully adhered to the same surfaces. The voice of, sssis, ouh, or ho as one encounters a sun soaked hot surface instead of splashing water on it first, or placing a sitdown towel, or from the chill on the surface at other times. I don't think that those man-made surfaces are ever, "just right."

My favourite places are anywhere in the countryside, easily accessible by bike, where I can sunbathe naked in relative privacy and be able to walk around (preferably barefoot) from there. Having a "base" means that I don't need to carry anything on my walks except perhaps cover up, but not always that - it depends on how confident I feel.

A sunbathing session followed by a walk of up to an hour, followed by a sunbathing session... I can do that all day and not get bored.

I know two such places, both only about a mile from home on the edge of a large town. I don't need any more than that. I don't get bored of the same places because the weather conditions are always different (we rarely get two days alike in the UK) - temperature, humidity, wind speed, make every naked experience at least subtly different.

Does anybody else practise what I will call "base" free range naturism, where they leave and return to the base multiple times throughout the day?

There was an abandoned railroad line near here where I was able to bike to an area of an old abandoned surface mine which provided the kind of place which you described Balead. It made a great jumping off point where the bike, clothing and provisions could be hidden and hours spent wandering around the area. Now the place has been taken over by ATV and dirt bike activities, the influx of gas drillers and mountain bikers. Weekdays are the only time any naked wandering or sunning can be done plus the total area has been made smaller by the drilling activity.
