The very first thing I learned in college was how to tap a keg.

What every student in college needs to know to survive.

Cook? I don’t need to learn how to cook.  ;D

Political Science? Why do I need to learn that?  ???

The only time I ever heard about Watney’s Red Barrel was the Monty Python “Disgruntled Holiday Maker” sketch. I probably saw that the 1st time in about 1975.

I’ve never had one. But if it taste’s anything like Texas Pride that’s all I need to know.

I didn't learn to cook in college except an omelet and a big simmering pot of vegetables to get us through the week. I do remember calling my mother to ask how to boil water.

BEER and political science? When I first explored Mexico and South America I had nearly no Spanish. I did know "todos barachos" and "todos amigos" and "uno mas". Literally, only a few words more. It kept me out of lots of fights and drunken anti-American sentiment. I played it simple and BEER took over the rest of the diplomacy. I'm sure that I owe my life to BEER.

No matter the country you are in, BEER is a safe bet.

Ancient Latin quote:
'In Vino Veritas, In Cervesio Felicitas, In Aqua Morbus
In wine there is wisdom, In BEER there is joy, In water there is sickness

My Dad once said that who controlled the armies in certain realms of WWII was influenced by who had control of the best scotch. It was some kind of inner circle knowledge of the power processes between the British and American military leaders. He seemed quite sure of it. His secret liquor cabinet had great influence on his positioning as an officer.

He manipulated and played rank and sneaked quadruple rations of BEER for his troops, the night before they left for North Africa. There were a lot of empties, extra six-packs and some of those guys had a heck of a time pulling themselves up the rope ladders to get into the ship.

He had stood honorably and kept the grunt busy doing paper work. His men grabbed BEER so fast that the poor guy couldn't keep track of it all. He couldn't question an officer. Seems that going to war and many them dying the next few days, "could be me, what the heck", takes over. He figured that they deserved it.

Beer makes history. What influence has it had on naturism? I'm sure that inhibitions dropping off have had many a "normal' see the light, at least once. I ponder what stats would say about getting naked and correlating with being liquored up.

Incredible how the conversation lurches around!
Thank you, Duane, I watched the Monty Python Sketch.  I too saw them at University in the 1970s.  We students used to get together round the one telly in in the place, in a room in the college and be collapsed with laughter throughout.  What was deeply impressive was that Eric Idle had learned that whole speech talking at high speed for about 3 minutes - that's some learning.  Mind you, he dropped the B/C joke during it.  Hats off to any actor that has to learn large amounts of lines for a weekly TV show.

The 1st time I encountered Monty Python was is 1975. Me and a friend were apartment hunting in Dollahs, Taxes and had rented a room in a cheap hotel. Since we were poor students our entertainment involved sitting a lot and watching TV. We were scanning the channels and ran across the show with the Psychiatrist milkman, Déjà vu and Graham Chapman hanging from a ceiling attempting to teach Terry Jones how to fly. All throughout the show stuffed animals that appeared on sets simply were exploding. It was like nothing I had ever seen.

I still remember that. Both of us were falling down laughing.

Inspired genius! ;D

Why go to all the effort of thinking up a bon mot when someone cleverer has already done it?

Speaking of stolen material, Oscar Wilde had a reputation for it. J. McNeill Whistler made some clever remark which led to:

Oscar Wilde: I wish I had said that.
James McNeill Whistler: You will, Oscar, you will.

(Suposedly, Wilde was able to laugh at this.)

Does anyone remember how Monty Python built this into a skit, featuring the Prince of Wales?
