Since 1989, the old normal, which reined in Tucson since records began, only occurs every few years. It has become just another on the list of extreme possibilities. Monsoon arrived late this year, but continues with odd local weather patterns, like localized severe storms that blow down "block walls", flooding, and last night on the other side of the Tucson Mountains they clocked 104 mph hurricane force winds.
Last year, for the first time ever, there was no monsoon, three puddley rains during over more than a year, so I'm enjoying all of the rain and even the subsequent weeds and water flows at Redington Pass to play in naked. The extremes are getting more extreme, between La Nina and El Nino, the arctic warming making the polar jet stream wobble, it has gotten plain goofy weird with heat, cold, rains, winds, all breaking records, not just here, but seemingly every place. We lost a lot of wild life this last year, so it will take a few years for the ecological balance to get back.
Nightwalker, that 122F is just way too much without air conditioning, although it could break one. I hope that it cools down in the evening 30F or more degrees. You can put wet cloth in front of fans and windows, stay naked, circulate air around a body. Here, warm water comes out of the tap, but a bath can help like a swimming pool. Hydrate and use shade. A drive in the car, or even bug out to higher elevations and lakes.
I noticed less severe climate change back east during our travels, but everything, I was told, was a little off. Bugs and invasive plants destroying trees and ecology, farmers loosing out from two months of Spring drought in Michigan.
I've been planning a trip to the northwest through California, but lots of free range hiking has been burning up and the smoke is a huge problem. The smoke in Colorado from the fires hundreds and over one thousand miles away was horrible as we went through. It hazed out lots of our nature photography and views. It is so weird to taste and get a dry throat from something burning so far away.
Some of the change has benefited naturism, like warn sunny days, but so much of it has been a been negative.
